In light of the account of the crucifixion of Jesus, note the following:

Jews formally gathered together to offer prayers and listen to the reading and expositions of the scriptures. Assemblies of that sort were held every Sabbath and every feast day, afterwards also on the second day (Monday), and on the fifth day (Thursday), of every week. (Easton Bible Dictionary)

I find this interesting in that the account in John is speaking of the feast of Unleavened Bread but we believe that this day also fell on the fifth day of the week (Thursday) which was the first high day Sabbath.

This strengthens our stand that Jesus hung on the cross in the Servant Candle position in the middle of the week; on the fourth day, Nisan 14, Passover - (Wednesday).

Jesus was crucified.

Jesus was removed from the cross and buried before the day the Paschal Lamb who was slain ended - before the high day Sabbath that happened to be on Thursday began.

Not only was the day following Christ's death a Thursday, but it is called a high day i.e. Nisan 15, the Feast of Unleavened Bread

Yeshua fulfilled this feast when He was placed in the tomb shortly before the first moments of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

Yeshua was the Unleavened Bread...

John 6:

51 I am the Living Bread which came down from Heaven: if any man eat of this Bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

John 19:

31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation (to prepare for the Feast of Unleavened Bread), that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day (Unleavened Bread), (for that Sabbath day was an high day), besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away (before the Sabbath high day began).

The first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread is the Sabbath spoken of in John 19. Both the day before the Feast of Unleavened Bread and the day before the weekly Sabbath were designated as Preparation days. This should help those who get confused about Christ’s death and resurrection.

Leviticus 23:

6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.

7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

8 But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

Seven high days are designated in Leviticus 23 (verses 7, 8, 21, 25, 28, 30-32, 35-36).

These high days (holy convocations) are Sabbaths.

They were to be treated like the seventh day Sabbath (Friday at sundown through Saturday at sundown). These seven high days could occur on a day other than the seventh day of the week; the normal weekly Sabbath.

The Feast of Unleavened Bread was to be celebrated for seven days, beginning on the evening of the 15th of Nisan through the 21st of Nisan.

The first day of Unleavened Bread was a high day and the seventh day of Unleavened Bread was a high day.

But, something that we may have overlooked:

Jesus fulfilled the Law in all aspects - even in His death and burial.

Deut 21:

22 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:

23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

Not only does this Scripture speak volumes as to the reason Yeshua was taken down from the cross and buried on the same day He was crucified and died – but, the land that God gave Israel for an inheritance was brought into remembrance at Christ's death and burial.

WOW! WOW! WOW!

Jesus (Who became a curse for us) arose from the tomb exactly 72 hours later.

There is no way that Jesus could have risen in the closing hours of Nisan 17, just before Nisan 18 any other way than to have died on Nisan 14, and to be buried before the day ended.

Jesus was placed in the tomb before end of day Nisan 14 and arose from the dead before end of day Nisan 17 - exactly three days and three nights; fulfilling the sign of Jonas that He gave the Jews who questioned if He were from heaven. To be sure, Yeshua rising from the dead three days and three nights later was a sign to those who questioned His credentials.

Jesus presented His shed blood on the altar in heaven which satisfied the Father and made the Way that you and I could obtain eternal life.

Jesus fulfilled every jot and tittle of the LAW.

This coming Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread week will fall the same as they did in the year Yeshua died and rose again.

This coming year of 2006 will be a year of perfect order –Nisan 10 falls on the weekly Sabbath, Nisan 14 falls on a Wednesday, and Nisan 17 falls on the weekly Sabbath.

Our Risen Lord is so precise, and I love to seek Him out through His Forever Word...
